Discover this delicate glass-working technique with well known, Australian glass artistEstelle Dean.
Pâte de Verre is a Roman process of frit-casting. You will design and create moulds for two pieces and build them from layers of frit. Learn how to use the kiln to manipulate the frit, utilising its texture and fragility, while also ensuring that your pieces are going to be strong and durable.
Try your hand at making open-back plaster moulds and explore the possibilities and restrictions to think about when you design and create your frit-cast works. Look at different grades of frit grits and the importance of releasing agents. Create frit wafers which will be slumped. You will also look in detail at the firing programs for Pâte de Verre pieces.
All pieces pictured are by Estelle Dean and represent the sorts of pieces that you can expect to make.Suitable for beginners.
